Take Credit? Accepting Credit Cards Is A Must

By Amy D. Perry

Owning a small business can be a risky thing to do. For some it may even seem like certain doom is lurking around every corner. With competitive markets, bank foreclosures, and the risk of going bankrupt a small business owner must do what he or she can to stay in business. One sure fire way to ensure your company will flourish is to take full advantage of credit card processing and obtaining a merchant account from your local bank.

There are many steps a small business owner must complete before they are granted a merchant account. First you must get in contact with your local bank and ask to speak to a representative. They will inform you on whether or not that particular bank offers merchant accounts to small businesses. If you are not accepted by the bank you can easily get a merchant account from a third party provider. These organizations offer similar services at fair prices.

If you are being considered for a merchant account a bank will send out a representative to wherever you conduct your business. They need to authenticate your office, (home or otherwise). They will report on your work station and have a part in the decision making process.

If the bank feels your office space is adequate you must then file in some important paper work. The bank will need copies of the tax returns from the previous year. They will also require complete access to your companys bank account so they can withdraw or add funds accordingly.

Most banks will charge 2-3% tax on all transactions. You are basically paying them to let you accept bank cards. While this may seem unorthodox remember they are providing you with a service as well. Also be careful with some companies. They may want to charge you a higher tax on your transactions. Dont be suckered in to paying a 5% tax. Keep your options open and always have more than one company to choose from.

With a merchant account you are able to charge a customer or consumer who wishes to pay for a service or item with a debit card. With the ease of such services as online banking, direct depositing paychecks, and ATM machines people are less likely to carry around cash. They are more inclined to charge things or pay for them with their bank card.

Businesses can actually lose customers if they dont have a merchant account. Sometimes when a person doesnt have cash they will simply refuse to take out money and pay for an item. It is not rare for a person to walk out of a business when learning they only accept cash. To be on the cutting edge small businesses must be able to receive all forms of payment.

With all the benefits one would have access to with a bank merchant account it is surprising not there are still small businesses that do not accept credit cards. In the long run they are only hurting their business. A company should be capable of growing and expanding its service to meet the needs of the average consumer. - 23217

The Questions to Ask Your Bankruptcy Attorney

By David Williams

Filing for bankruptcy is one of the most difficult decisions you can make. But by hiring a knowledge bankruptcy attorney, you can make the emotionally wrenching process of declaring bankruptcy at least a little less stressful.

But how do you find the right bankruptcy attorney for you? Simple: You have to ask each attorney whom you interview the right questions. It?s all part of doing your homework, and will help you find the ideal professional to guide you through the bankruptcy process.

Start by asking attorneys how much of their caseload is devoted to bankruptcy filings. This is an important question because bankruptcy laws change so frequently. An attorney who only handles a few bankruptcy cases a year may not be well-versed on the latest bankruptcy laws.

Next, ask attorneys whether they will appear in court with you during the bankruptcy process. Often, you will only have to attend one court hearing. But you?ll want your attorney by your side, not a paralegal. Make sure your attorney does plan on appearing in court with you.

When you are interviewing attorneys, make sure to ask, too, if there might not be better options for you than filing for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy attorneys should be willing to look over your financial information and debts to determine if there are better choices. Filing for bankruptcy will impact your credit for years. It should only be a final-resort option.

You should also ask bankruptcy attorneys what paperwork they?ll require from you to get started working on your case. Bankruptcy filings involve a lot of paperwork. Compiling it can be a time-consuming chore, so the sooner you start on the process, the better.

Any attorney with whom you work should be able to give you a written fee agreement. This agreement will spell out exactly what services an attorney will provide for what cost. Having this information written down avoids problems or debates later. If an attorney does not work with a written fee agreement, you should not work with that attorney.

After attorneys answer these questions to your satisfaction, you should then ask about fees. Too many people ask about this first, before taking the time to determine if a particular bankruptcy attorney is the right one for them. Yes, price is important. But just because a bankruptcy attorney charges a lower fee, that doesn?t make him or her the right attorney for you.

Remember, you do get what you pay for. Often, the cheapest bankruptcy attorney isn?t the best one for you. You want a knowledgeable, skilled and ethical bankruptcy attorney. These often don?t come cheap. Ask the right questions, though, and you?ll find the right attorney. - 23217

Store Credit Cards and You

By Samatha Ferguson

If you can comfortably clear the outstanding amount on your store card when the bill arrives and are a regular customer of that particular retailer, it may be worth using a store card, as there could be plenty of benefits in doing so. Not only do you get a discount on your first purchase, there are usually other perks, such as bonus reward schemes, free catalogs or magazines, and special shopping days, where you can avoid the crowds and shop in peace. Jim Black gives customers 1% of what they spend in store back in the form of vouchers, for example, so if you are a regular customer this could be worth having.

Some retailers have launched credit cards alongside their store cards so you get the usual rewards of a store card for spending on the retailer-branded credit card. The danger is that while the APR tends to be lower than on a store card, it isnt as cheap as some of the best credit cards. And as you arent restricted to one store but can use it in whatever outlets you like, you could run up more debt on it than you were able to before. Check the APR before spending " and if it isnt that competitive (and you dont clear your balance every month) dont use it at all.

Set up a direct debit to pay the full amount due on your store card each month. Then, if you forget to pay one month " perhaps because youre on holiday " it will be paid regardless so you wont run up any interest.

As well as persuading you to take out a store card, many retailers will try to force you to buy card protection and, just for good measure, card payment protection as well:

Card protection: Covers you if your card is lost or stolen. A single call from you can cancel all your plastic and usually costs around $7 a month.

Card payment protection covers your store card repayments if you lose your job or become ill and cant work.

You would want to avoid both types of cover, as they are expensive and usually a waste of money. Dont be talked into signing up, no matter how persuasive the salesperson is. If you really want some card or payment protection, shop around for a good deal rather than automatically taking out the policy the store card provider offers: There is no obligation to do so and you will find a better deal elsewhere. Make sure you read the small print before signing anything. - 23217

Know more about REO before purchasing one.

By Angela Kleinertski

REO is defined as Real Estate Owned. Everyone is talking about REOs these days. But before you consider buying one, there are a few things you should know about REOs. These properties are generally owned by banks, credit unions, mortgage companies and sometimes private companies. It has become increasingly common for the news to report foreclosure issues and homeowners losing their houses and other effects of the mortgage crisis.

First-time and minority potential home buyers are the people that are being marketed by these REO sellers.Successful real estate investors works with many companies to help these types of home buyers realize the dreams of owning your home using reasonable and affordable loans. There has been a shift in the industry from marketing REOs to those who renovate houses to first-time home buyers.

There are many laws regarding foreclosures and the process. Mainly, when the property is in the pre-foreclosure and auction stage, the bank (owner) is only legally entitled to its losses and expenses. This is to say that the bank (owner) is not entitled to gain a profit from the sale. This changes however, after the property has been foreclosed on it becomes an REO.

REOs sale prices is generally lower than that of a similar non-REO property. In today's market , this may not always be the case. This is mostly due to the fact of the number of such properties in the market. Even though a property is an REO, it does not mean that the owner will not make a profit off the sale.

Let's say now you've decided you want an REO. You should know there are risks associated with this "great deal" you are getting. When considering your REO purchase, make sure you have access and contact information for various experts who will guide you in the inspection process.

You will require a Realtor's help, who can protect your interests and make sure you get the best deal possible. Your Realtor will be able to generate reports for you showing comparable sales prices which will enable you to assess whether the asking price for the REO you are considering is appropriate.

REO are property that is what you see is what you get. You will require a qualified home inspector to guide you with this step of your REO purchase process. Only a qualified inspector will be able to reveal latent flaws or issues that you will need to consider before you purchase the REO. You will need to factor in the costs of potentially repairing, replacing or rehabilitating the necessary sections of the property into the price you will be paying.

When purchasing an REO it takes longer, you are not dealing with Mr. and Mrs.Homeowner, you are dealing with either a Bank or an Investment Company. The decision making and sale approval process in a business takes much longer than with individuals. It could take weeks to get an approval on your offer. Additionally, even though most banks will remove taxes and occupants from the property, in order to protect yourself, you should perform a title search. - 23217
